On May 18, JICA Executive Senior Vice President YAMADA Junichi met with Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), at JICA headquarters.

Mr. Yamada and Mr. Grossi discussed the situation in Ukraine and Iran and exchanged views on global energy challenges, with particular focus on combatting climate change and transitioning to a net-zero emission society. Mr. Grossi explained Rays of Hope, IAEA’s new initiative that aims to establish and expand radiotherapy services for cancer care, notably in African and other low- and middle-income countries. Both sides agreed to further discussions on potential collaboration in the health sector.

JICA will continue to work on global development challenges through strengthening its partnership with IAEA and other international organizations.
