JICA President TANAKA Akihiko met with United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director David M. Beasley at JICA Headquarters on July 12.

At the opening of the meeting, Executive Director Beasley expressed his gratitude for JICA’s contributions towards resolving issues like global food insecurity worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine. In response, President Tanaka expressed his sincere appreciation for the emergency relief offered by the WFP. He also wished that the two institutions work together in providing support, in the long term perspective, to strengthen the resilience of developing countries against the shocks to food systems. Furthermore, they exchanged views on how they can advocate issues of food security and nutrition around the world together with various international partners at TICAD 8 in this August.
