On December 17, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a memorandum of comprehensive cooperation with Gunma Prefecture. The signing ceremony was held at Gunma Prefecture in the presence of JICA President KITAOKA Shinichi and Gunma Governor YAMAMOTO Ichita.

This memorandum aims at strengthening the partnership between JICA and Gunma Prefecture and at cooperating in the promotion of a society with multicultural coexistence and co-creation.

So far, JICA has worked with Gunma Prefecture mainly in international cooperation activities. Gunma has several localities where many foreigners live densely, and it works to build a society with multicultural coexistence and co-creation. JICA will deepen its partnership with Gunma Prefecture in order to present practical solutions to the emerging social issues local governments confront.

In the memorandum, four principles of cooperation are presented as listed below;

1. Promotion of a society with multicultural coexistence and co-creation
2. Human resource development contributing to global outreach by the prefecture
3. Promotion of technical cooperation using specific knowledge and know-how existing in the prefecture
4. Promotion of overseas activities by SMEs in the prefecture
