Signing of Grant Agreement with Lesotho: Contributing to stable power supply through promotion of renewable energy development by support for rehabilitation of small-hydropower generation facilities

On 24th January 2022, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Pretoria, South Africa, to provide grant aid of up to 1.415 billion yen for the Project for Small Hydropower Improvement.

Under this project, small-hydropower generation facilities at Katse Dam will be rehabilitated based on Japanese technologies with the aims of supplying stable power. It is expected that this project will contribute to the development of renewable energy in Lesotho and the achievement of SDGs Goal 7 (Energy).
