Dispatch of Needs Assessment Survey Team (third survey team) to Moldova to assess the needs for humanitarian and medical assistance for the displaced Ukrainians

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has dispatched a Needs Assessment Survey Team (third survey team) to Ukraine's neighbor, Moldova, in order to provide assistance to displaced persons from Ukraine, as well as to neighboring countries. Two members of the four-person survey team consisting of medical personnel and JICA staff have left Japan for Moldova on May 16.

From March to April of this year, JICA dispatched two survey teams to Moldova in order to conduct needs assessments for emergency medical and humanitarian assistance. These teams have contributed to the Emergency Medical Team Coordination Cell (EMTCC) set up jointly by Moldovan Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) through such means as coordinating emergency medical assistance and managing medical data.

The EMTCC has since been operated by the WHO, who have requested to dispatch a third survey team. This team continues coordinating emergency medical assistance and managing medical data in collaboration with WHO staff, while also conducting needs assessments aimed at reinforcing Moldova’s disaster medical system.

Together with partners such as international organizations, JICA will continue to extend its utmost cooperation to the countries surrounding Ukraine, including Moldova, which are accepting displaced persons.
