Signing of Grant Agreement with Kenya: Contributing to improve the investment environment for the Special Economic Zone in Mombasa, a gateway to East Africa

On June 16, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Kenya in Mombasa, to provide grant aid of up to 6,000 million yen for the Project for Infrastructure Development in Mombasa Special Economic Zone at Dongo Kundu Area.

The objective of the project is to improve the investment environment of the Mombasa Special Economic Zone, which is located in the Dongo Kundu area. It will do so through developing water supply facilities and rainwater drainage channels, as well as developing land based on the "Mombasa Special Economic Zone Development Master Plan" formulated with the cooperation of JICA. This project is expected to increase private investment and promote logistics in Africa, and will contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goal 8 (Decent work and economic growth).

【Drainage Component】Drainage for the north area of the southern bypass road
【Land Development Component】Land leveling and surface protection of up to 10 ha, construction of administration building and related facilities, as well as public transportation rotaries and public toilets
【Road Component】Temporary construction road (from D1 to disposal site/FTZ-B)
Equipment:Cargo handling equipment (reach stacker etc.)
