On November 12, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed grant agreements with the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Phnom Penh, to provide grant aid of up to 6.248 billion yen for the following three projects.
(1) The Project for the Expansion of Phum Prek Water Supply System (grant amount: 3.361 billion yen)
(2) The Project for the Construction of Training Complex and Outreach Facility of Cambodian Mine Action Centre (grant amount: 2.451 billion yen)
(3) The Project for the Improvement of Infectious Waste Management (grant amount: 0.436 billion yen)
Details for the projects are provided below.
(1) The Project for the Expansion of Phum Prek Water Supply System
<Objective and Summary>
In the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, due to the rapid increase in demand for water, both domestically and commercially, the water supply has become inadequate. The objective of this project is to improve water-supply services in Phnom Penh through the construction of water intake facilities, the expansion of existing water treatment plants, and the installation of water intake and distribution pumps, thereby contributing to the improvement of the living environment of the people of Phnom Penh. This project will also contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goals 3 (Good health and well-being) and 6 (Clean water and sanitation).

(2) The Project for the Construction of Training Complex and Outreach Facility of Cambodian Mine Action Centre
<Objective and Summary>
Under this project, a training complex and outreach facility will be constructed for the Cambodian Mine Action Centre, with the aims of capacity development and awareness raising. It is expected that this project will promote demining and clearance of unexploded ordnances both domestically and abroad. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions).

(3) The Project for the Improvement of Infectious Waste Management
<Objective and Summary>
The objective of the project is to strengthen infectious waste treatment at 29 public health facilities by installing medical waste incinerators, thereby contributing to the reduction of health hazards. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 3 (Good health and well-being).
