Signing of Grant Agreement with Rwanda: Contributing to the provision of a stable water supply for the residents of Kigali City through the construction of water-supply facilities

On December 6, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Rwanda in Kigali, to provide grant aid of up to 3,005 million yen for the Project for the Improvement of Water Supply Services in the North-Central Area of the City of Kigali.

Under this project, water supply facilities in the north-central Kigali area will be constructed with the aim of optimizing the water pressure and reducing leakage occurrences, thereby providing a stable water supply. This project will contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of residents in the north-central Kigali area, as well as to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goals 3 (Good health and well-being) and 6 (Clean water and sanitation).

【Facilities】
Construction of distribution reservoirs, an elevated water tank, and pressure-reducing valves; rehabilitation of water pipes (divider valves and air valves, drainage systems); procurement of water pipes, main distribution pipes, and service connections; and implementation of a monitoring system (flow meters, water level indicators, electrical auxiliary equipment, expansion of the existing monitoring system), etc.

Pipes and service connections, water meters, and equipment for connecting pipes and service connections, etc.

②Consulting services
Detailed design work, bidding assistance, construction/procurement supervision, etc.
Technical assistance regarding the installation and supervision of pipes and service connections, and operation and maintenance of the monitoring system (as soft-component activities)
