What is Innovative Asia?
Innovative Asia provides master's or doctor's courses at Japanese universities as well as internship opportunities at Japanese companies, research institutes or governmental organizations in the following study fields: Science and Technology, and Engineering, especially, Information Technology, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, etc.
The program began in 2017 based on the "Japan Revitalization Strategy" approved by the Japanese Cabinet in June 2016.
This program aims to enhance the circulation of capable young personnel between Japan and Asian countries and to promote innovation in the whole Asia. Also, inputs by Asian innovative human resources to Japan's business community are expected to bring about diversity to it, resulting in the mutual benefits between Japan and Asian countries, which will strengthen bilateral relationship in the long run.
The program invites participants (scholars) every year over the course of 5 years from 2017. Target participants are to be selected from the 60 partner schools of the target 12 countries who graduated or will graduate before their departure to Japan.*
Target countries and partner schools are as below.
*The 3rd to 5th batches (intake from 2019, 2020 and 2021) will be selected from Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship Holders.

After completion of the program, certificate of completion of Innovative Asia Program will be issued by JICA.

Internship Program
Innovative Asia provides opportunities for graduate students to undertake an internship at Japanese private companies, research institutes, etc. (hereinafter called "host organizations"). All participants are required to experience internship by the end of the degree program.
*Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) as the designated implementing agency offers the arrangement and support services in cooperation with JICA.

The purposes of the internship program
1) To have concrete images of working in Japan
2) To strengthen skills as a researcher and on-the-spot abilities in the industry-academic fields
3) To promote understandings of working environment in Japanese private sectors, Japanese business practices and its management systems
4) To build human networks in Japanese industrial world
5) To promote human networks in Japanese private companies, research institutes, and promote mutual understandings -

Internship period
Approximately 2 weeks (six months for maximum) during summer vacation
*Other periods are available on request basis. -

Other
No reward or compensation should be paid to the host organizations and to the participants. Participants are not allowed to receive remuneration from host organizations.

Preferential treatment after completion of the program
Innovative Asia participants who wish to work in Japan after completion of the program will be able to receive preferential treatment when obtaining their status of residence in Japan (additional points for Highly-Skilled Foreign Professionals, etc.). See below "Information" for more detail.

Be a MEXT scholar
The 3rd to 5th batches (intake from 2019, 2020 and 2021) will be selected from Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship holders.
Among MEXT scholarship holders, Innovative Asia participants will be selected based on the discussion between university and JICA.
