Signing of Minutes of Meeting on JICA Partnership Program with Bangladesh: Establishing a model to promote economic exchange between Bangladesh and Miyazaki, Japan

2022.01.25
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Miyazaki City, Miyazaki University and North South University signed the Minutes of Meeting with the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh for the Project on Bangladesh-Miyazaki ICT Engineers Educational Training Project, which is the JICA Partnership Program under Japanese Technical Cooperation.
In Bangladesh, over 20,000 students graduate from ICT-related departments of universities every year. Yet, the employment rate even among top class universities are still around 77%. With the number of ICT companies continuously increasing in Bangladesh, the BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services) has now as many as 1,684 member companies. Japan Focus Group formed with more than 50 members seeks to expand their business opportunities in Japanese market.
On the other hand, Miyazaki prefecture faces challenges in regional revitalization as well as internationalization. Although ICT industry is one of the key factors to overcome the challenges, lack of skilled ICT engineers is the major constrains.
In order to solve the problems with creating win-win situation for both sides, the project aims to establish a model to promote economic exchange between the two countries: promoting and matching business opportunities for Bangladeshi and Japanese ICT companies in both Bangladesh and Miyazaki.
To this end, the project will provide young Bangladeshi ICT engineers with training programs including Japanese business manners and communication. The project will also strengthen the strategic linkage between Japan Focus Group of BAISIS and Miyazaki IT Plus (ICT Business Association of Miyazaki City), all of which contribute to achieving the SDGs Goal 9, "Promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation"
