Chile has joined the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in May 2010 and maintains a relatively high income level with its stable economic growth. While Chile expands South-South Cooperation as an emerging donor, environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution, waste treatment, as well as climate change problems become apparent due to the economic development and urbanization. As Chile is an earthquake-prone country like Japan, there is a great need for the assistance in the field of disaster prevention. Therefore, JICA's support to Chile is primarily focused on: 1) environmental measures with a focus on disaster prevention, and 2) support for South-South cooperation.
