September 2024: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Indian judoka Mr. Kapil Parmar for winning the bronze medal and Ms. Kokila for her remarkable performance in the visually impaired judo category at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Since the establishment of Indian Blind and Para Judo Association some 14 years ago, this year was the first time Indian judo athletes competed in the Paralympics. The display of their dedication and skills on a global platform underscores India's growing prowess in para sports and is a testament to the tireless efforts of JOCV (Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer) coach, Mr. Nagao Soma.
Mr. Nagao, a dedicated judo practitioner, has been coaching India's national para judo team since March 2022. Recognizing the immense potential in both Mr. Kapil Parmar and Ms. Kokila, Mr. Nagao developed personalized training programs tailored to their strengths.
Through his unwavering dedication, cultural sensitivity, and faith in his athletes, Mr. Nagao created a strong bond with the team. In December 2022 their collective efforts culminated in Mr. Kapil Parmar's groundbreaking victory at the Tokyo International Open Tournament, followed by his silver and Kokila's bronze at the Asian Para Games in October 2023. In April 2024, Mr. Parmar won the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo Grand Prix.
