Mauritius

The Republic of Mauritius has moved away from an economy depending on traditional industries such as sugar, textiles, and tourism, and has continued its economic growth by investing in new sectors such as finance and IT. It is now classified as a high-income country (World Bank 2020). It is also regularly ranked among the top countries in Africa in the Doing Business rankings (World Bank) for the quality of its business environment.
On the other hand, the country is located in the Western Indian Ocean, a cyclone-prone region, and in 2020, an oil spill accident occurred when a cargo ship ran aground.
JICA is providing assistance in the areas of disaster prevention, environment, and fisheries to address these issues, and is also supporting the improvement of an investment environment as a gateway to Africa.
