Message from the Chief Representative

Welcome to JICA Pakistan office website!

On 15th March 2024, I became Chief Representative of JICA Pakistan
This is my first time working in Pakistan, and I must say, the country is abundant with gentle and friendly people.

Pakistan, with a population of 240 million, ranking fifth globally, is a youthful nation with 65% of its population under the age of 30. While its potential is apparent, social indicators such as education and healthcare, which are essential for development, remain low, and gender index remain the lowest in the world. Furthermore, the recent floods in 2022 submerged one-third of the country's land, highlighting its vulnerability to natural disasters.
JICA is dedicated to assist Pakistan in overcoming these challenges and
achieving additional growth through a variety of measures, including technical cooperation and
financial assistance.
Leveraging the strength of Japanese cooperation, which combines support for both software and hardware while collaborating with people in partner countries, JICA aims to contribute to Pakistan's development and strengthen its relationship with Japan.
In recent years, JICA has focused on following sectors.

1.Enhancing human security and social stabilization through human capital investment and social service expansion
Improvement of Quality and Access of Education
-Securing Basic Health Service
-Enhancing Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth
-Securing Access to Safe Water and Sanitation
-Agriculture and Rural Development
-Securing Resilience against Natural Disasters

2.Enhancing high quality economic growth through improvement of investment environment
-Ensuring Economic Stability and Promoting Diversification of Industries
-Achieving Stable Power Supply with Efficiency

3.Establishment of peace and stabilization, which are the foundation for these efforts.
-Peace Building
-Governance Enhancement

2024 marks the 70th anniversary of Japan's international cooperation in Pakistan. During this period, JICA has implemented a lot of projects in various sectors and following achievements are identified as typical example of contribution.
-Provision of about 200,000 non-formal educational opportunities since 2014
-Provision of nearly 20 million polio vaccines each year since 1996
-Supply of safe water to more than 6 million people

As we commemorate this milestone year, JICA celebrate the progress made over the past 70 years while aiming for further advancement and deepening of cooperation to build a stronger relationship with Pakistan. Our commitment to the sustainable development and prosperity of Pakistan remains unwavering.
