Joint Coordinating Committee Meeting for JICA-PNG Power Technical Cooperation Project

A Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting was held on the 27th of February 2024 for JICA-PNG Power Limited (PPL) Technical Cooperation Project on “Improvement of Planning and Operation of Power System”. The purpose of this meeting was to highlight achievements made by the project over two years and present the 3rd year (2024) plan for the project.
Through this project, JICA Experts trained PPL staff on how to implement system planning for transmission line, maintenance for transmission lines and substations and improve protection coordination. JICA also donated equipment to improve PPL’s capacity to maintain existing infrastructure to improve quality and reliable electricity for PNG citizens. Training was conducted by JICA Experts on how to use such equipment to PPL staff.
This project started in 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by January 2025. JICA is committed to support PPL to ensure its capacity is improved to provide quality and reliable power on its own.
