2024.02.20

The mission team, consisting of two members from Kitakyushu City Fire and Disaster Management Department and officer from JICA Kyushu Center, conducted Follow-Up Survey activities for Knowledge Co-Creation Program on “Fire Management and Disaster Risk Reduction” from 6th to 15th February. The mission aims to (1) understand the implementation of the action plan of ex-participants from PNG Fire Service (PNGFS), participants of the course in 2022, (2) conduct supplementary training on fire management and disaster risk reduction, (3) collect information for the improvement of the future training, and (4) understand the need for cooperation in the field. The mission team exchanged opinions with PNGFS Officers and provided technical guidance and advice when observing the inspection and installation of fire alarms. In addition, the mission team conducted supplementary training on fire management and disaster prevention for PNGFS officers, contributing to their upskilling.

Mr. Sedrick, ex-participant of the training, highlighted the importance of the training, saying “We must upskill firefighters and give them exposure to experiences that JICA can share with us”.

JICA will continue its support to enhance Fire Management and Disaster Risk Reduction in PNG.
