Handover of Japanese Emergency Relief Goods to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea in Response to the Natural Disaster


Japanese emergency relief goods through JICA were handed over to the Government of Papua New Guinea in response to the recent Natural Disaster in PNG.

This shipment of emergency relief goods from Japanese Government through JICA includes 95 tents, 570 blankets, 10 plastic sheets, 570 sleeping pads, 8 water purifiers, and 400 portable jerry cans in response to the disasters.

The emergency relief goods arrived at Jacksons International Airport on 14th April, followed by the 2nd batch of relief goods arriving on 16th April. The letter of delivery and acceptance was signed by Mr. MATSUOKA Hideaki, Chief Representative of JICA PNG Office, and Mr. Laso Mana, Acting Director of National Disaster Centre (NDC), and witnessed by H.E. WATANABE Nobuyuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to PNG.

On the occasion, Mr. Mana shared its appreciation to the people of Japan and told that these goods are not just emergency relief provision, but also a token of friendship of both countries. Ambassador H.E. Watanabe extended his heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones because of this tragedy and hope that with these relief goods, difficulties facing those affected will be mitigated and they are able to come back to their normal life as early as possible.

The emergency relief goods will be delivered by NDC and PNG Defense Force (PNGDF) in a few days.
