Workshop of Working Group for JICA-PPL Technical Cooperation Project

[Goal 7] Affordable and Clean Energy
SDGs

2024.07.16

A workshop was held on the 12th of July 2024 for JICA-PPL “Project for the Improvement of Planning and Operation of Power Systems”. The aim of the project is to ensure PPL properly implements system planning for transmission line and maintenance for the transmission lines and substations on its own after project completion. Our super goal is that by 2029, 50% reduction of blackouts in 3 main grids caused by inadequate maintenance of PPL’s transmission, substation and protection coordination equipment comparing to the baseline figure in 2021.
The workshop was held to give an overview of the project and present the Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) developed through this project. Presentations were done by JICA experts and PPL staff on the different training Manuals and SOP developed in accordance with the Grid Code. Attendees from the PPL management, consultant and JICA PNG Office participated in this workshop.

JICA hopes the Manuals and SOP’s developed can be approved and utilized by PPL soon for their sustainable and proper operations. JICA will continue to support PNG energy sector to ensure the outputs of this project are achieved as scheduled as we work to achieve the target of 70% energy coverage in 2030.
