JICA participates in the 33rd Senior Education Officials’ Conference

JICA Papua New Guinea Office (PNG) participated in the 33^rd Senior Education Officials’ Conference (SEOC) in Vanimo,West Sepik Province from 16 to 19 July 2024.

The SEOC is organized by the National Department of Education (NDoE) every year to allow NDoE, sub national education offices and all education development partners to reflect on collective accomplishments in improving the quality of basic education in PNG and to identify gaps for further improvement. The conference was attended by all Provincial Education Advisors, development partners, the private sector, Civil Society Organization and Non-Government Organization and the theme for this year was “Transform Teaching and Learning to Achieve Quality Education for All - Quality Learning for All -.”

During this weeklong conference, JICA PNG shared its activities to support PNG to improve the quality of teaching and learning in maths and science.

JICA is also the Coordinating Agency (CA) for the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) program, a global fund that PNG and other developing countries apply for support in the education sector. As the CA, JICA has the role of supporting NDoE in preparing necessary documentation and leading and facilitating all stakeholder engagement throughout the application process. Hence, at SEOC, JICA also shared the progress of activities under GPE for the benefit of the Provincial Education Advisors and other education partners.

SEOC is one forum that JICA will continue to actively participate in given its potential to set a clear road map or guide for all education partners education related programs and projects in PNG.
