First Joint Coordinating Committee Meeting for JICA-Technical Coopeation Project for Improving Resource Related Revenue Management Phase 2

The First Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting was held on Monday, 30th of September 2024 for JICA-technical cooperation project “Project for Improving Resource Related Revenue Management Phase 2”. The purpose of this meeting was to highlight achievements of the baseline survey and agree on the 3 year (2024-2027) plan for the project.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. John Uware, Deputy Secretary of Department of Treasury (DOT) with giving an opening remark of highlighting the importance of this project for not only improving reliability of the resource data and information but also accessibility would benefit Government and people of PNG. The remark from Mr. MATSUOKA Hideaki, Chief Representative of JICA PNG Office followed and acknowledged the strong leadership and coordination of EITI National Secretariat in DOT, Auditor General’s Office (AGO), Department of Petroleum (DPE) , and other related entities.

Through this project, JICA dispatches experts and provides training to enhance the capacity of staffs from EITI National Secretariat, AGO and DPE to improve their auditing and reporting to promote transparency of resource related information in PNG by increasing the accuracy of data and information to resource extraction and by Improving Resource Related Revenue Management, which aligns the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) requirement.

The project started in March 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by February 2027. JICA is committed to support GoPNG to ensure its capacity to be improved and promote transparency in EITI reporting in the sector.
