OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
Endow pedagogical and technical skills to the teachers in nursing and midwives schools of the target countries to provide high-level courses to their students in the following areas:
- Session 1 : RESEARCH;
- Session 2 : PEDAGOGY;
- Session 3 : QUALITY MANAGEMENT;
- Session 4 : DOCIMOLOGY;
- Session 5 : COMMUNITY HEALTH
PROJECT SUMMARY
The Ministry of Health and Social Action (MHSA) of Senegal, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the West African Health Organization (WAHO) agreed in 2008 on the organization of a training Course on strengthening the pedagogical and technical skills of teachers in nursing training and midwives schools of speaking countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the five-year period 2008-2012.
After an evaluation of the five sessions during the first phase of the Course, positive results has been recorded include among the others: the creation of the network of nursing and midwives schools teachers of the target country; a number of 106 teachers equipped in pedagogical and technical skills to provide high-level course for all countries, has been reached. In addition with the simultaneous intervention of JICA and WAHO, 390 teachers in Senegal and 240 teachers from other countries in the sub region have received training in Competency Approach (CPA) in their respective countries.
Thus, a second request was lodged by participants for a second phase of training to enable them to be more efficient in their teaching duties. In this context, a workshop was held in Dakar, to identify training needs of teachers and properly plan the various sessions of Phase 2. Burundi and Mauritania were invited to this workshop to be included in the Phase 2 of the project.
The holding of this training will enable the countries facing the same problems of human resources, to learn lessons and identify their own solutions to put at the disposal of the health system of their respective countries a competent staff who can contribute efficiently to reach the Millennium Development Goals and at the same time promote cooperation between South-South countries and Japan -Africa.
