Seychelles

With tourism and fishing as its major industries, Seychelles has prominent standard of per capita GNI, compared with the other African nations, at 10,530 dollars (WDI: 2010). However, the dependence on tourism for income, and imports for most food and fuel fosters its economic vulnerability. In recent years, due to frequent emergence of piracy in its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), and the tourism and fishing industries, the two main pillars of the Seychelles' economy, have been damaged severely. JICA is considering main aid sectors on economic diversification in Seychelles with focus on fisheries using marine resources, measures against climate change which could cause enormous impact on island nations, and measures against piracy, which has been grown in scale in recent years.
