Message from the Resident Representative

Welcome to JICA Sierra Leone Office website!

On 1st April 2024. I took up JICA Sierra Leone Office as Resident Representative after completing my tenure in Ghana, Zambia and Japan.

I am very glad to be here since I visited here before and came to know that the country was blessed with peaceful and friendly people.

As you know, Sierra Leone has a population of about 8 million and it is well endowed with a variety of natural resources and tourist sites, this to me means that Sierra Leone has a lot of precious assets and high probability of development.

Although there had been many challenges and difficulties, Sierra Leone always endured and overcome them, was adding on to make themselves even stronger.

Based on this gratifying environment, and to expedite further socio-economic development here, JICA has been implementing its programs, namely Technical Cooperation, Financial Support such as Grant Aid in infrastructure, agriculture, health and governance sectors. In addition, JICA has continued providing short-term training and scholarship in Japan for participants’ capacity building in their various sectors.

Although the Country is now facing many economic challenges after the COVID-19 pandemic, JICA will comprehensively contribute to the achievement of Sierra Leone’s Development Plan.

Besides, in 2025, 9th TICAD (The Tokyo International Conference of African Development) will be held, an initiative by Africa themselves for their development. It is an important agenda and we, as JICA, have been and will be supporting Sierra Leone for constructing a resilient society.
