In September this year (2012), new President has been elected in Somalia, and the international community pays a great attention on its peace process after 20-year-long civil war. However, the people in Somalia are still suffering from the severe conditions, living in the land devastated by the long time civil war, and continuous droughts.
While following the policy of the Japanese Government, JICA would consider supports to Somalia for enhancing its capacity of the government for constructing a new country, as well as alleviating poverty and improving livelihood of the people, in cooperation with neighboring countries, development partners, and other organizations.
