Signing of Grant Agreement with FAO for Sudan: Contributing to Food Security through Strengthening Production Capacity of Farmers and Irrigation Schemes in River Nile State

On May 4, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Port Sudan, to provide grant aid for the Project for the Enhancement of Food Production Capacity for Vulnerable Farmers in River Nile State. The signatures were exchanged between Representative Hongjie Yang of FAO in Sudan and Chief Representative Kubo Eiji of JICA Sudan.

The Project for the Enhancement of Food Production Capacity for Vulnerable Farmers in River Nile State

- Project Objective
To strengthen the production capacity of farmers and the irrigation management system in the target irrigation areas of River Nile State by distributing seeds, providing training, rehabilitating irrigation facilities, and supplying operation and maintenance materials for irrigation equipment to farmers and agricultural extension officers, thereby contributing to food security in the State.

(a) distribution and multiplication of seeds
(b) Improvement of field operation equipment for the State Ministry of Agriculture
(c) rehabilitation of irrigation facilities
(d) supply of operation and maintenance materials for irrigation equipment
