Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is co-organizaing in a 3 - day East Africa Rice Conference (EARC) which started on May 18, 2021 and will continue until May 20, 2021.
The conference, which is being held in Dar es salaam, is organized by the Coalition of Africa Rice Development (CARD), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Agriculture Policy Research in Africa(APRA), JICA and other partners.
One of the objectives of the conference is to boost multi-stakeholder collaboration towards achieving national and regional rice self-sufficiency, increasing food and nutrition security and alleviation of poverty through inclusive and sustainable production and commercialization.
Day 1, approximately 40 people drawn from several organizations/institutions including the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and JICA participated in the conference. Two technical sessions were conducted and several topics were covered including: National Rice Research and Development, Inclusive Market &Value chains, Rice based Livelihood and Integrated Rice Sector Development in a Changing Climate, Inclusive Finance &Investment, Agriculture Policy Process &Reforms.
By the end of the conference it is expected that there will be strong coordination between researchers, policy makers and stakeholders.
In the sessions, all participants had fruitful and meaningful discussions and freely exchanged ideas and opinions.
