Uzbekistan

In recent years, Uzbekistan has achieved rapid economic growth driven by vigorous private consumption and capital investment through promoting structural reforms such as the privatization of state-owned enterprises and the increase of young entrepreneurs in rural areas while it also produces mineral resources of gold and uranium. In order to maintain quality growth in a sustainable manner, it is necessary to incorporate green energy with efficient use, strengthen connectivity with neighboring countries through international corridors, and develop human resources who will upgrade industrial development. The Japanese government recently set country development cooperation policy with Uzbekistan focusing on three areas: sustainable economic growth and industrial diversification and advancement, building a fair and sustainable society, and strengthening governance. Based on these priority areas, JICA is extending cooperation in the field of energy conservation and renewable energy, development of business oriented human resources, diversification of agriculture, and improvement of basic human needs (health, medical care, and education).
