An inspiring discussion held at Uzbek-Japan Innovation Center of Youth by Nobel Laureate Professor Hiroshi Amano and young researchers from Uzbekistan

2024.10.02

On September 22 Professor Hiroshi Amano, a Nobel Laureate in physics, visited Uzbek-Japan Innovation Center of Youth and held a round-table discussion with young researchers from UJICY, Tashkent State Technical University, National University of Uzbekistan and Ion-Plasma and Laser Technologies Institute of the Academy of Science. The 2-hour long discussion was kicked off by Professor Amano’s presentation of the DII Collaborative Graduate Program for accelerating innovation in Future Electronics – a program launched at Nagoya University to develop human resources who can achieve 30 years of innovation within 10 years. Participants learned about the program initiated by Professor Amano – designed to provide a venue for students as leaders of cutting-edge research in society in a bid to resolve different global issues. Young researchers were astonished to learn about the program and the environment it created for actually experiencing research, development and practical applications.

The event was followed up by the presentation of UJICY model on co-creation in innovation, science and technology made by JICA’s project advisor – Dr. Nargiza Amirova, who focused on synergetic activities of the Center’s researchers to foster academic-industrial collaboration, UJICY’s strategic vision and values. Both presentations set a tone for the follow-up discussion where each researcher got a chance to talk to the Nobel Laureate. The questions covered a wide range of topics – from LED technologies for medical and other fields, support mechanism essential to the professional development of young researchers to specific innovations to be integrated into the educational system, the role of mentors and interdisciplinary research. It was a very “illuminating” discussion and all participants got many valuable insights and take-aways to think about and consider.

All 15 researchers have agreed to stay connected with each other – the group has announced itself as “Amano’s warriors” that will continue to work together under the leadership of Uzbek-Japan Innovation of Youth.

UJICY is committed to keep on empowering and enlightening the world around.
