Market Oriented Agriculture Promotion for Extension Officer in Africa Course
Online: February 10 - March 7, 2025, and in Japan: March 8 - September 26, 2025
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to JICA and the Government of Japan for granting me the opportunity to participate in the Market Oriented Agriculture Promotion for Extension Officers in Africa (KCCP) training program. The program was truly instrumental in equipping me with valuable knowledge and necessary skills to promote market‑oriented agriculture and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Africa.
The training program was exceptionally well‑structured, consisting of three key phases:
1. Preliminary phase conducted in the home country
Before traveling, I conducted an in‑depth analysis of the challenges faced in my target area. This exercise helped me better understand farmers’ needs and identify areas for meaningful improvement.
2. Core phase in Japan
During my stay in Japan, I had the privilege of learning about a wide range of essential topics, including the SHEP approach, market trends and distribution systems, vegetable cultivation techniques, organizing small‑scale farmers, agricultural extension systems, and much more. The training was delivered through a combination of lectures, presentations, discussions, practical experiments, and insightful site visits, which gave me a comprehensive understanding of market‑oriented agriculture.
3. Finalization phase conducted back home
Upon returning, I shared my key learning points with farmers and colleagues. I am now actively working implementing the knowledge and skills gained to support the growth and development of smallholder farmers.
The program was an absolute game changer for me. I am confident that the knowledge and skills I gained will continue to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of smallholder farmers in my area of work. The training not only strengthened my technical expertise, but it also reignited my energy, passion, and motivation to serve our farming communities with even greater commitment.
The program also gave me the chance to explore some truly fascinating places across Japan. From the historic Nagoya Castle to the serene ancient temples and refreshing ocean beaches - each place left a lasting impression. And of course, traveling on the bullet train was a completely unique and unforgettable experience that I will always cherish. In addition, the warmth, love, and hospitality I encountered from the Japanese people made my stay even more meaningful. The country is peaceful and beautiful, leaving one with cherished memories and a longing to return.
To close off, I am deeply thankful for the support, learning, and inspiration I gained throughout this journey. Special appreciation goes to my instructors, the program coordinator, the technical team, and all the JICA staff who made my stay and studies both enjoyable and memorable. I am fully committed to continue sharing the knowledge and skills I gained with as many farmers as possible, and to contributing to the growth of market‑oriented agriculture, and improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods in my area, my country, and Africa as a whole.
The journey continues, and I am excited for the impact ahead!
Thank You! Arigato Gozaimasu!!
