Advancing Customs Administration Excellence Through JICA’s Capacity Building Program

Ms. Thomasine Zvichauya successfully completed the Customs Administration Course under JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation‑Creation Program (KCCP), held in Japan from October 6 to November 1, 2025. This prestigious program aimed to strengthen the capacity of customs officers involved in customs reform and modernization, enabling them to better identify, analyse, and address challenges affecting customs policy and administration in their home countries.

A Diverse International Cohort
Ms. Zvichauya joined esteemed participants from Maldives, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Rwanda, Thailand, Ukraine, and Namibia, creating a rich environment for knowledge exchange, sharing experiences and best practices, collaboration, and professional networking. Through a well-designed‑designed blend of lectures, site visits, and interactive sessions, the program ensured an engaging and enriching learning experience tailored to varied learning styles.

Course Outcomes
The program equipped participants to:
1. Examine and articulate key challenges within their home country’s customs administration, supported by insights from the site visits and discussions with Japanese and international customs experts.
2. Develop practical actionable plans for modernizing customs administration and efficiency in their home countries.

Her Reflections
Ms. Zvichauya was quite ecstatic about her experience in Japan: “Everything was wow! The exposure - both work and social life - was absolutely awesome. The program not only deepened my understanding of customs administration but also strengthened my determination to contribute meaningfully to customs modernization in my country. I had the utmost fun, and the other participants were super nice. The experience, the people, and the learning are treasures I will carry forward with purpose. I really loved my time there!”
