In celebration of the International Women’s Month, JICA Zimbabwe proudly recognized Ms. Mabel Nyamurowa, a dedicated Program Officer for the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) Program. Every day, Ms. Nyamurowa champions women’s empowerment and contributes to building fair, inclusive societies.
Through her work, she continues to strengthen collaboration with our partners to deliver greater impact, supporting volunteers, and ensuring that volunteer requests from partners include gender and development considerations. Her efforts coupled with capacity building provided by JICA have not only enhanced her own professional growth but have also supported the activities and stay of the 14 female volunteers currently serving in the country. These women are inspiring meaningful change in sport, education, tourism, business administration, marketing, research, community development, design, and arts.
In her own words, Ms. Nyamurowa reflects on her transformative journey at JICA and the program’s contribution to women’s empowerment: “JICA’s work inspires me to champion social transformation through the simple yet powerful act of living and working together with communities. Our volunteers’ passion for creating positive change strengthens counterpart organisations, building trust and nurturing long-term relationships that transcend gender or titles. I am truly privileged to work with the JOCVs and to contribute to meaningful experiences that enrich their lives and the lives of the communities they serve.”
Ms. Nyamurowa and the volunteers’ amazing work directly contributes to JICA’s Global Agenda No. 14: Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.
