Japan Day 2023

2023.02.26

Japan Day was held on February 26, 2023, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. Attendees turned out in their numbers to once again revel in the cultural extravaganza hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Jamaica. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic saw an end to face-to-face interaction for two years, so attendees were extremely jubilant as they observed the different booths and performances put on by various affiliated organizations in Jamaica.

The event commenced with a captivating Koto performance (traditional Japanese string instrument made of wood), Karate demonstrations, "Reggae Bon Bon" (fusion dance of Reggae and Bon Odori) spearheaded by JICA Jamaica personnel, Cosplay show, and Soranbushi dance. The event culminated with mesmerizing displays of Ikebana.

Attendees were not short of activities to participate in such as Calligraphy, Origami, and the Yukata experience. Additionally, there was a plethora of booths including JICA and JETTA that provided information to enthusiastic participants.

As attendees exited the venue, they expressed their eager anticipation for next year's event.
