Mauritius

In an effort to free itself from economic dependency on the narrow traditional industries of sugar production, textiles and tourism, the Republic of Mauritius is aggressively investing in information technology and other new fields. In 2010, economic growth reached 6.3 percent with a per capita GNI of 7,740 dollars (World Bank: 2010), and in 2009, Mauritius was ranked number one among African nations in the World Bank's Doing Business project for its favorable business climate. JICA's support to Mauritius is primarily focused on 1) the environment 2) Climate Change and 3) disaster prevention.
