Major Projects in Mongolia

Enhancing the Extension System for Comprehensive Crop-Livestock Management

photo

Agro-livestock industry in Mongolia faces high risk due to its management style depending on natural environment. Despite agro-livestock is one of the major industries in this country, natural disaster often affects its management and farmer/herders’ living seriously. To alleviate this situation, JICA implemented technical cooperation project from 2006 to 2009 to introduce a new management style that combines agriculture with livestock industry, namely “comprehensive crop-livestock management model”.

The new project started March 2010 and its activities has been conducted at 14 Soums of 6 Aimags (Bulgan, Darkhan-Uul, Selenge, Tuv, Khentii and Orkhon) as well as Central level (Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry) in order to strengthen Mongolian capacity to ensure sustainable dissemination of “comprehensive crop-livestock management model” throughout the country.
