Strengthening the Capacity for Solid Waste Management in Ulaanbaatar City

photo

In Ulaanbaatar City, issues related to solid waste management (SWM) have become severe due to population increase and change of life style. Therefore, JICA implemented a Development Study “The Study on SWM Plan for Ulaanbaatar City in Mongolia” from 2004 to 2007 and a Master Plan (M/P) for Ulaanbaatar City (Target Year 2020) was formulated. To assist implementation of the M/P, Japanese Government implemented the Grant Aid in 2008 for construction of new Narangiin Enger Disposal Site and provision of equipment such as waste collection vehicles and heavy machineries.
Based on the outcome of past projects, the technical cooperation project started in 2009 in order to develop human resource for SWM in Ulaanbaatar City to promote the Master Plan.
