Establishment of the Technical Committee and Meeting of the 2nd Steering Committee (JSCoT Project)

According to the project document it is imperative that training should meet labor market needs. The establishment of the Technical Committee has therefore been recommended to ensure the training courses to meet the industries need.

JSCoT Project conducted its 1st Technical Committee meeting on 16 May 2006 at the conference room of the Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET).

This Technical Committee will meet every three months in each training course and perform the following functions.
-To establish a close relationship between Maradana College of Technology and Industry concerned,
-To implement short-term upgrading courses for workers,
-To promote employment opportunities of trainees,
-To implement industrial placement of teaching staff for upgrading their expertise.

In this meeting, outline of the Technical Committee; its background, functions and members, outline of the JSCoT project, progress of the activities of the training courses and a draft activity plan for the next term were explained and discussed.

Fourteen members participated in this meeting from the various reputable factories, industries and associations.

2nd Steering Committee meeting

The 2nd steering committee meeting was held on 19 May, 2006 in the DTET conference room. The members reported and discussed such subjects as the achievements, plans and issues on activities during the relevant period of time. The following major achievements were reported to have been realized through February to April 2006 by the project
1.1st batch of equipment was delivered to the project site,
2.Four counterparts were trained / being trained in Japan,
3.Counterparts/staff attended the JICA-NET seminars on KAIZEN, 5S and JUST-in-TIME,
4.Part of workshop improvement work was completed,
5.Equipment was installed at the CG center in Marada CoT,
6.Zonal and National Skills Competition -2005 were completed successfully,
7.The Japan division was expanded and refurbished.
Urgent recruitment and appointment of counterpart staff and prompt completion of the workshop improvement work were particularly requested by the Japanese side
