The 4th Steering Committee Meeting was held on 12th October 2006 at the Conference Room of the Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET). The meeting chaired by Dr. H.L.Obeyesekera, the Director General DTET, reviewed the achievements during July to September and discussed activities in October to December 2006.

The following major achievements were reported at this meeting.

1.Sent two more counterpart officers for their training through JICA individual training program (Welding-Mr. Kulatunga & IT-Ms. Guruge).

2.Assigned four additional counterpart officers for the project (one for Mechatronics, one for Metal Work and two for IT).

3.Held the 2nd Technical Committee Meeting

4.Prepared career guidance survey questionnaire to students and printed to distribute.

5.Preparations for Skills Competitions in 2006 are in progress.

The meeting also discussed, among the other subjects, the continuation of developing training syllabuses and subject matters, 2nd group of equipment procurement and its ordering, continuation of workshop improvement work and provision of furniture, assignment of additional counterparts (3 C/Ps) selected through the last interview, preparation work of students requirement and its implementation (ICT, Metal Work ), holding the 3rd Technical Committee meeting and the working group meeting on know how accumulation in the next period.

Mr. Umimae, Chief Advisor, particularly underscored that the next three months would be the last period for starting new stage of the project, so that we, both Sri Lankan and Japanese sides, should be united in making all necessary preparations for achieving our goal: starting model courses on schedule.
