According to the Project document the model courses should accompany the industrial needs. To achieve this objective we formed the Technical Committees with a membership of industrial representatives. As one of the activities to have a firsthand look, the experts and counterpart officers planned to visit their factories before the courses starting.

On the 9th of November 2006 we visited the Colombo Dockyard Ltd, to study their work environment, training and the infrastructures facilities they provide for trainees as well as the employees.

Actually it is a fortune to us to have a visit to a company like Colombo Dockyard Ltd, because they are the premier ship repairers and ship builders as well as one of the leading heavy engineering companies in Sri Lanka

Mr. Shinichi Tatebe, the Chairman, CDL warmly welcomed us and briefly explained about the history, activities and the achievements of the company. Thereafter Mr. Mohamed Prince Lye, the Assistant Manager, CDL made a power point presentation to make us aware about their detailed history, facilities, dry docks and characteristics.

We spent a couple of hours visiting their machining, sheet metal, pipe welding and molding workshops. After visiting their own training center, they offered us to visit the ship repairing and ship building yards where we experienced the real working environment of welding, cutting, fabricating and painting by using manual, semi-automatic and sophisticated equipment. Mr. Ohashi, the Director and Mr. Yamashita, the Technical Advisor of CDL guided us to show various aspects of welding industry.

Counterpart officers of the JSCoT Project were totally satisfied and said, “We gained a lot through this visit especially on the aspects of real working environment”

We would like to express our sincere thanks to CDL for organizing this visit.
