Visit to FDK Lanka (PVT) LTD.–Katunayake, Free Trade Zone

Phoro Phoro

We visited the 1st factory of FDK Lanka Ltd, at Katunayake on the 15th November 2006. The Managing Director, Mr. Katsuhiko Kono and his staff welcomed us warmly and introduced their Managers to us. Mr. Upananda Mallikarahchi , Executive Director made us aware of its outline through a power point presentation. Some of the important data we collected through the presentation were given below:

- Established the factory in 1991,
- Number of employees at present 2,600,
- Main products are optical Isolators, magnetic heads and rotary transformers,
- By using the Toyota productivity way, they have been able to cut down the wastages by 50% and made their products to a high quality as well as low cost,

- Visualized every thing in a clear and consistent way by using a control tool called “KANBAN”.

Mr. Anil Jayaweera, the Personal Manager/ TPS guided and explained to us the functions of their optical device manufacture division and floppy disk division.

We all were very much impressed with state of the art production system, clean and safe working environment. This visit was very interesting and useful to our counterpart officers and they asked more and more questions to clarify the mechanism of production line related to control system.

Finally our team thanked them for giving us the opportunity to visit their factory.
