Visit to Institute of Engineering Technology (IET-Katunayake), NAITA, on 15th November 2006 at 2.30 p.m.

Mr. Elmo Fernando, the Deputy Principal welcomed us and introduced his staff. Mr. Y. Umimae, Chief Advisor, explained the visit purpose and JSCoT project outline. During the short discussions with the staff concerned, we noted the following data:

-They conduct 4 year Diploma programs named National Diploma in Engineering Science “NDES”,
-They are practicing the duel system,
-They have 3 majors called civil, mechanical and electrical (Each major has 3 specialized courses),

-24 permanent and 20 visiting instructors and also 24 permanent lectures and 19 visiting lectures as the tutorial staff for the whole institute. Student’s entry qualification is A/L 3 subjects in Maths stream,

-They select 350 students as intake per year out of 2,000 odd applicants,
-They have hostel facilities for 125 students.

After visiting their Mechatronics lab, welding section and IT lab, Mr. Umimae thanked Mr. Kapila Kemaratne and Mr. Anjan Gamage, the lecturers, who guided us. Thereafter Mr. Umimae explained our Skills Competition and requested them to visit the competition as well as our Project.
