Visit to YKK Lanka (PVT) Ltd. at Avissavella, Free Trade Zone on 17th November 2006.

Mr.Y. Umimae, Chief Advisor, briefly introduced our Project activities and explained our visit to YKK stating that the purpose of the visit was to look at facilities, production lines, the actual environment of the factory related to Mechatronics and exchange views on training of skilled workers. Thereafter we thanked Mr. Shinoda, on behalf of Mr. Fujii, Factory Director, who invited us to visit the factory.

Mr. Shinoda, the Technical Advisor, Mr. Lanka Ranasinghe, TPM Leader and Mr. Navindra Jayasuriya, Assembling Engineer, who made us aware of the factory outline through power point presentation. The data we got during the presentation are:

- They started the factory in 2000 and the main product is zippers,
- Employee capacity is 239 in 2006; out of this 175 are females,
- Conducting three shifts and average age of employee is 25 years,
- Employee’s entry requirement is O/L or A/L and should posses a 6 months OJT under the senior employees.
- They employ technical staff from CGTTI. Mr. Lanka is also from CGTTI.

Especially Mr. Lanka presented their experiences, solutions and improvements related to technical troubles occurred in the production lines. He emphasized those competencies in trouble-shooting/solving are very essential for technical staff. Then Mr. Umimae highlighted the course contents of our new courses and the management of Y.K.K. Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, expressed to give the opportunities to employ our graduates in future if they are well qualified.

Then we visited their dyeing, enameling chain and assembling sections and they showed the pneumatic control systems in their production line and the modifications done by them.

Mr. Umimae explained our skills competition and requested them to contribute in future. Our team thanked them for the opportunity.
