On the 6th of February 2007, in a series of visiting companies and institutions related to Mechatronics, we visited Matrix (Pvt) Limited, a company established at Kelaniya in close proximity to Colombo.

Mr. Amunugama, the General Manager, Matrix (Pvt) Ltd. welcomed Mr. Sato(Expert-Mechatronics), Mr. Goonewardena(Counterpart Officer-Japan Division), Mr. Ariyasinghe and Mr. Nawaratne(Counterpart Officers in Mechatronics), who participated on behalf of the JSCoT Project.

This company imports and sells electrical and mechanical equipment like good lifts, gantry and panel boards and hopes to import automated pneumatic and hydraulics products in future. They also modify, repair and assemble the products which they import and undertake aftercare services. The major areas that they handle are air compressors, material handling equipment and garage equipment.

Five engineers and nine technicians work in this company in addition to the other non-technical staff.

Mr. Seneviratne (CEO) and Mr. Amunugama (G.M.) guided and explained us all about their products and services by showing their Accounts, International Affairs, Software Development and Marketing and Aftercare Units. Finally we visited their small stores and we found they use “5S” system and maintain the quality in each unit.

Mr. Sato thanked and requested them to support the JSCoT Project by giving comments in regards to the development of Mechatronics course in various means.
