The 3rd Joint Coordinating Committee Meeting

The 3rd Joint Coordinating Committee Meeting was held on the 15th February 2007 at the Secretary's Conference room, "Nupunatha Piyasa", Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training, Narahenpita.

Mr. Wijenayake, Project Manager, JSCoT Project presented the overall report on the project achievements such as student requirement activities, result of the aptitude test, interview, English proficiency of students etc.

Dr.H.L. Obeyesekera, the Director General of DTET and Project Director, explained the mid-term achievement target of the Project. Followings are some of the focal points:

- To develop syllabuses and training materials in Mechatronics course to commence the training in January 2008,
- To continue the development of training course contents in ICT and Metal Work,
- To complete workshops and laboratory improvement works,
- To train Counterpart officers in Japan to upgrade their skills and knowledge,
- To strengthen collaboration between JSCoT and industry.

Then Mr. Y. Umimae, the Chief Advisor of the Project, described the tentative Japanese input to the Project and an implementation plan in 2007 to achieve the target proposed by the Project Director. He pointed out that not only the continuation of developing the training course contents in IT, Metal Work and Mechatronics, but also focusing on other activities such as industrial collaboration, career guidance and know-how accumulation and dissemination  should be the major activities in this year.

The Committee meeting discussed and exchanged views on the agenda. Continuous assignment of long-term experts and exposure of trainees to the wide variety of equipment prevailing in the industry were requested in particular.

And the views that the Sri Lankan side should play a leading role in implementing the project with support by the Japanese side, and that overlapping of the activities should be avoided among donors, were expressed by the Japanese participants.

Finally the vote of thank was done by Dr. H.L. Obeysekera.
