On the 08th of March 2007, Mr. Umimae, the Chief Advisor, JSCoT Project welcomed Hon. Pyasena Gamage, the Minister of Technical and Vocational Training at the lobby of the Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET), at the ceremony to honor Hon. Minister Piyasena Gamage, the awardee of the 2006 Asia Pacific Excellence Award for Human Resources Development Leaders (APEA – HRD Leaders).

Minister Gamage was awarded as one of the APEA–HRD Leaders of year 2006, by the Colombo Plan Staff College (Manila based) evaluating his performances as follows:

- A person who contributed immensely to the re-structuring , reorganizing and uplifting of Vocational and Technical Education system in Sri Lanka for the benefit of the poor.

- A person who initiated the establishment of University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) which is set to provide career paths through TVET.

Dr. H.L. Obeyesekera, DG DTET, explained the background of the CPSC, with a brief introduction on" How CPSC selected the awardees among applicants".

Mr. Umimae, Chief Advisor, JSCoT Project congratulated Minister Gamage and requested that he needs Minister's leadership for the success of the JSCoT project in future. Ceremony was over by presenting a memento to the Hon. Minister by Dr. H.L. Obeyesekera.
