The awarding ceremony of the 3rd National Skills competition was held on 19th July, 2007 at the auditorium of the Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET) with the distinguished participation of the Chief Guest Hon. Piyasena Gamage, Minister of Vocational and Technical Training, Guest of Honor Mr. Susumu Higuchi, 2nd Secretary, Embassy of Japan, Mr. Manabu Iida, Assistant Resident Representative of JICA Office, Sri Lanka and Mr. Thilak Hapangama, Secretary to the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training.

Dr. H.L. Obeysekera, Director General (DTET), at his speech, emphasized that DTET has accepted the challenges to develop human resources to match the global requirements, and this Skills Competition encouraged the trainees as well as the trainers to develop skills, knowledge and values towards this focal point to some extent.

Mr. Iida conveyed the massage on behalf of Mr. Takumi Ueshima, Resident Representative of JICA Office, Sri Lanka. At his speech, he extended their gratitude to all members who contributed in various ways to make the Skills Competition and awarding ceremony 2006, a success. Also he appreciated the advancement and achievement gained through hard working and dedication of the members of the Skills Competition, indicating the four trades at the beginning to an advancement for 10 trades within three years. Finally he added that they expect that "DTET will continue to organize this competition with the collaboration of the ministry and private sector through available finance and resources and contribute to the development of the country."

Certificates, medals and tool kits were presented to the national winners by the Hon. Minister Gamage and the trophies were presented by Mr. Higuchi.
