New Resident Representative (RR) of JICA Sri Lanka Office, Ms. Noriko SUZUKI and Deputy RR, Ms. Yasuko NISHINO accompanied by Mr. Cabral Indika, Program Officer, visited JSCoT Project on 28th November 2007. They were warmly welcomed by Mr. N. R. R. K. Wijenayake, the Executive Director of Sri Lanka College of Technology (SLCoT) and the staff concerned with the project.

At the briefing session, Mr Wijenayake explained the project purpose, outputs, assignments of C/P staff, training and NVQ framework, infrastructure and equipment facilities, which the College so far has developed with the assistance of JICA. He also displayed some photos to show the activities related to the training courses, skill competitions, inauguration ceremony and official visit by the Japanese parliamentarian delegation in August this year.

First they went to the Career Guidance Centre and Business Centre and then visited the Mechatronics, Metal work and IT sections in the Project. They were briefed on the equipment and facilities in workshops and labs. Ms. Suzuki questioned the students about the contents that they have learnt.

At the discussion in the conference room Ms. Suzuki positively expressed her views on our Project activities and we exchanged our ideas. Requests for the dispatch of a long-term expert on Mechatronics and Japan Ovearseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) on IT as well as for the continuous JICA support were expressed from the Sri Lankan side, while the initiative for sustainable management of the Project by DTET and the College was stressed by the JICA officials.

Finally we, all project staff, thanked them for their visit as well as for their sincere comments and views shared with us.
