Management Committee Meetings of JSCoT Project 8th Steering Committee Meeting (SC)

On the 30th January 2008, the 8th steering committee meeting was held at the conference room of DTET under the chairmanship of the Additional Director General, Mr. D.V.P.Y. Kulatunge, to review the achievements during October to December 2007 and discuss activities in JFY 2008.

The following major achievements were reported at this meeting:

1.A new batch of students for ICT, Metal work and Mechatronics (NVQ Level 5) courses enrolled in 2008 and the ceremony to welcome the students was held,
2.Newly assumed three experts collected first-hand information by visiting Lanka Wall Tiles factory, University of Peradeniya and Galle CoT,
3.Preparations for specifications and placing of orders for JFY2007 equipment were over.
4.Five counterpart officers were reported to the JSCoT Project after having their training in Japan. Also one senior officer in MVTT reported after having a study-tour to Japan,
5.Chief Advisor and HoD (JSCoT) participated in TV program to introduce the JSCoT Project as a propaganda program for Level 5 & 6.new courses.

As inputs to the Project in JFY 2008 the following things were reported;

1.A Chief Advisor and Coordinator will be appointed to succeed the current Advisor and Coordinator when their assignments expire,
2.A long-term expert for Mechatronics and 3 short term experts in three subject fields will also be expected.
3.Major equipment for Mechatronics in JFY 2008 will be planned for procurement.
4.Training in Japan is scheduled for 5 counterpart officers.

The meeting also discussed, among the other subjects, preparations for tailor-made courses, a 4-month bridging course for Mechatronics new students according to their backgrounds, workshop renovation works, report on furniture procurement, report on textbook development and information on the next Technical Committee meeting.

Mr. Umimae, Chief Advisor, announced that the Mid-term Evaluation Team will visit from 05th-14th March 2008 and requested the coordination and cooperation of both sides to make the evaluation a success.
