On the 31st of January 2008, a team of JSCoT project consisting of Chief Advisor Mr. Umimae, Short Term Experts Mr. Tatara, Mr. Muraoka & Mr. Yamaguchi, Counterpart Officer, Japan division Mr. Goonewardena and Course Coordinator Mechatronics course Mr. Ratnaweera, visited Galle College of Technology to get the first hand information on their equipment and facilities, recruitment procedures and training methodology.

A group of students of Japanese langue course with their Instructress, Ms. Padma and JOCV Mr. Takabayashi, warmly welcomed us at the entrance.　Then the Executive Director/Principal Mr. Balasuriya and his sectional head, Mr. Jaytillake and our team had a meeting at his office. At this meeting they said that they have released six counterpart officers to the Mechatronics course on full time basis.

We visited their Mechatronics workshops, PLC lab and electrical lab, where the two German experts and counterpart officers work together. According to them they have started course on Mechatronics up to NVQ level four and hope to recruit students for level 5 as soon as possible. They also showed us the huge stuff of consumables which was supplied by the GTZ to run the courses smoothly for the years to come.

Finally Mr. Umimae thanked them and invited them to visit the JSCoT project.
