First Short Term Teacher Training Program for General Education

JICA – TVET Alumni Association is formed with the membership of the past participants of JICA programs in Technical and Vocational Education and training (TVET) sector in Sri Lanka. One of the objectives of the association is to conduct programs to transfer technical know how.

The main beneficiary of this technical knowledge transfer program is general education sector of Sri Lanka. The general education system has introduced Technical subjects to its GCE (O/L) and GCE (A/L) syllabuses recently. But still there is a shortage of work shop and laboratory facilities and resource personal to conduct these subjects. On the other hand TVET sector has all the necessary facilities. . As a community service JICA – TVET AA decided to help the general education providing short term teacher training programs on selected subject areas where they have high shortage of resources.

The first training program was conducted at Sri Lanka Technical College, Maradana from December 22nd -23rd, 2008 for 20 school teachers on Digital Electronics. The course was conducted by the JSCoT Project counterpart officers of Mechatronics section which is assistance from the JICA. The up to date teaching facilities of this section was used for the program. The JSCoT Project subject expert of Mechatronics section Mr. Hiramatsu also devoted his time for the benefit of this program.

The program was declared as a great success by all the participants. They further request assistance on subject areas such as ICT and Civil engineering.
