Final Meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) of the Japan Sri Lanka College of Technology Project (JSCoT)

The eighth and final meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) of the Japan Sri Lanka College of Technology Project (JSCoT) was held on Friday, 11 June 2010 at the Secretary’s Conference Room of the Ministry of Youth Affairs (formerly, Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training - MVTT) from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

Chaired by the ‘new’ Secretary, Mr.S.S.Hewapathirana of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the meeting saw the attendance of the Heads of Institutions such as Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), Vocational Training Authority (VTA) and the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC). The ADB-funded Technical Education Development (TED) Project was represented by the Project Director.

Mr Bandara, Director SLCoT spoke of the progress of the Project since the seventh meeting of the JCC held on 18 March 2010, while Mr.Ibrahim of the Project presented the feedback of the Project Closure and Lessons Learned Seminar held on 8 June 2010 at the Department. Commenting on the post-Project Monitoring mechanism, the in-coming Senior Representative, Mr.Otsuka stressed the need for an efficient and transparent monitoring mechanism that could be implemented quite easily.

The Secretary thanked the Government of Japan and the Japanese people for supporting the vocational training sector of Sri Lanka with a nationally-important grant Project of this magnitude.
